Item girl Mumtaz is back with the movie Rajathi Raja. Here are few excerpts from the interview of hers.

Her Long gap:

After Veerasami,I took break and was on a sabbatical. I was fed up with the kind of role, that were offered to me, with the directors syaing, ‘’ Madam sympathetic character, but you are not the heroine.” This put me off. I wanted to do something different within the parameters of commercial cinema, as box-office success is more important than anything else, if you have to survive in the industry.

On her losing weight:

I had a hormonal imbalance, which made me put on weight. I took treatment and was on  a diet . This helped me to knock off 21 kg. I was a foodie and now I eat moderately and do not have any bad habits like drinking or smoking. After losing weight I feel happy and totally relaxed.

Rajathi Raja:

When director Sakthi Chidambaram narrated the story, I had the feeling that the character he offered me was negative. This excited me. In the film, I play Saidai Shylaja, a petty Ganja seller who becomes a corrupt politician and finally a minister. The role has shades of Ramya Krishnan’s Padayappa, but more crass catering to the masses. I have an equal footing with the hero Lawrence. Both Lawrence and Sakthi Chidambaram, after seeing the film told me that I am the real hero of the film.

On her glamorous image:

I wear chiffon and georgette saris throughout the film. There is no costume more sexy and appealing than a sari in Indian cinema. Just watch the film and then you will realize how gorgeous I look in the sari. And, the big surprise is that not even one of the five songs is picturised with me. There should be some reality checks as it will look idiotic if a minister burst out in a song.
