A treat for Ajith fans – Grand 50!
Genre: Action
Cast: Ajith, Arjun, Trisha,Lakshmi Rai, Andrea, Anjali,Premji,Vaibhav
Director: Venkat Prabhu
Storyline: Cricket, Bookies, Cops, betting double-cross
The movie starts off with an awesome and apt introduction to Ajith, and what
more could his die-hard fans ask for than an opening sequence that has a
stunt and a song back to back ? The plot revolves around how different
characters double-cross each other over a fat match-fixing amount of 500
crores. In the process, there are cops, bookies, petty thieves and seasoned
gangsters. Ajith has been utilized to the hilt after Billa in this movie.
One cannot portray him better than this. He smells of sheer style, ease and
finesse. Of course, certain things do not change, like his typical dance
moves and his expressions when he strains his eyes. But he''''s a visual treat
to his fans, especially in the stunts which are well choreographed. Arjun
plays a role in this film, and scores points even with his comparatively
less screen presence. His well-maintained physique and brisk body language
even at this age have helped big time.
Trisha looks more gorgeous than ever in this movie, but the credentials stop there. Not her fault, since the director has bluntly trimmed her off to his needs which looks like a colossal waste. Vaibhav is just about adequate, and does his job. Andrea,
Anjali, Lakshmi Rai and many others just add to the star count. Premgi
Amaren tickles, yet irritates at times. Jayaprakash as Trisha''''s father fits
in, but looks a bit stereotyped. Aravind Akash, Ashwin and Mahat do their
bit.Vijay Vasanth does a guest appearance.
The movie lacks logic, but the
handling is good. There is a plot in the film, but it has not been
well-executed. One does not drive around with 500 crores in a van drinking
beer and dancing through the sunroof. Ajith chases the very same money
mindlessly and aimlessly on the roads. But the excellent direction,
cinematography and editing make up for these. Venkat Prabhu delivers.
The twist in the climax is interesting. Music by Yuvan is great, but there are
several unnecessary song sequences. A nice song sung by Charan has been
visually ruined. Even otherwise, the film drags a bit in both the halves. On
the whole, the movie is certainly not the greatest, but yet with its flaws
here and there, it is certainly worth a watch. A treat for hardcore Ajith
fans, and a fair entertainer for the rest.
