Dhanush and remakes go hand in hand! This time, the actor is back on screen with Mappillai, remake of his father-in-law
Rajni''s 1989 blockbuster of the same name.
Mappillai is special for many reasons, most importantly, for its name! The film also marks the Kollywood debut of young
sensation Hansika Motwani! In Mappillai, Manisha Koirala, who played the female lead opposite Rajni in Baba, appears as
Dhanush''s mother-in-law.
This is the next time Dhanush is teaming up with director Suraj after their blockbuster Polladavan.
Not surprisingly, Dhanush''s Mappillai has the same plot as the original! The film narrates the story of Saravannan (Dhanush)
who falls in love with Gayathri (Hansika Motwani), daughter of a rich businesswoman Rajeshwari (Manish Koirala). Though
Saravannan and Gayathri get married, her mother vows to separate the couple.
At this point, Saravannan decides to teach a lesson to his mother-in-law! And the rest of the story is about how Saravannan,
with the help of his friend Child Chinna (Vivek), takes on Rajeshwari!
It''s Dhanush, Dhanush and Dhanush all the way! The film completely belongs to him; he mouths punch dialogues, bash the goons,
sings and dances.
In fact, Dhanush has done it all pretty convincingly. Again, for the second time, the Dhanush-Vivek combo sets the screen on
fire. In Mappillai, get ready for some rib-tickling comedy tracks between the duo (remember Padikathavan?). Debutant Hansika
Motwani looks gorgeous on screen; however her character is very limited. Manish Koirala makes a strong comeback to Kollywood
after a long gap.
Ashish Vidyarthi, Kadhal Thandapandi, Sathyan Sivakumar, Vaiyapuri, Madhan Bob, Chitti Babu, Pattimandram Raja and Sri
Ranjani have done their parts well.
